Work is set to start on a pedestrian crossing to improve access to Yeadon’s new Aldi.

The company is planning to open its Yeadon store this year and has already advertised for staff. The scheme at Westfield Mills was approved in 2015.

It is planned that the work will be carried out by the council at the developers expense. The new crossing will be on Kirk Lane between its junction with Miry Lane and Haworth Lane.

Otley and Yeadon councillors Ryk Downes, Sandy Lay and Colin Campbell have welcomed the news that work is to start on the new crossing.

“When the proposals for a new Aldi store were put forward we raised the issue of pedestrians crossing busy Kirk Lane to access the site”, said Cllr Downes.

“It was decided that, along with a number of other safety features a new crossing should be provided. It is good to know that work is starting on this important safety feature”.

Cllr Campbell said: “Aldi have also promised to help improve the walking route between their store and the centre of Yeadon. We are waiting for them to come back with detailed proposals for improvements to the area.”

When Aldi’s Guiseley store opened in 2017 more than 300 people queued for the chance to win one of 100 prizes. The store was opened by team GB Triathlon champions Alistair and Jonny Brownlee .
