OTLEY’S MP is pushing for new funding to be used to install local electric vehicle charging points.
Alex Sobel (Lab, Leeds North West), a long-time campaigner for investment in support of low emission vehicles, raised the issued in the House of Commons in October, 2018.
Now the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) has secured £2 million from the Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles, with a further £1.2 million of match funding, to install charging points in the region.
Mr Sobel has written to the WYCA ‘s Transport Committee Chair, Kim Groves, to ask for some of that money to be spent in his constituency.
He said: “I would like to urge you to place at least one of these charge points within my constituency. Leeds North West does not have a single public charge point, despite the A660 being a key arterial highway for traffic.”
