THIS Christmas sees the premiere of Spotty Socks Theatre Company’s captivating family show for Christmas, ‘Freckle and Speckle’s Christmas Calamity’ - a ‘Pay What You Can’ event produced entirely in Guiseley.

Poor Elf Freckle causes chaos wherever he goes. Banished from the North Pole, join him as he embarks on an epic adventure - encountering a polar bear with hiccups, a penguin from the south pole (who has lost his way), and the excitement of being in the city for the first time. Making merriment (and a song) he journeys along, overcoming adversity to find his way home.

Spotty Socks - the Theatre Company of multi-award winning social enterprise Codswallop CIC - was set up to provide opportunities for local creatives and actors to experience the professional theatre world, and build a reputation as producers of meaningful theatre. Freckle and Speckle’s Christmas Calamity is the first show written and produced entirely by the theatre company themselves.

A first for Guiseley Theatre, this professional production is the brainchild of Codswallop CIC’s Directors – Jacob and Lucy Phillips. It is written by Jacob’s father who, along with Jacob, take on the roles of Freckle and Speckle (joined by resident Spotty Socks actor Chloe Lawson in other roles). The set design is by Codswallop’s Lucy Phillips with props and set construction by her mother and father. Lighting design is by Jacob’s brother, and his sister – Martha Phillips, frontperson of the Guiseley band The Elephant Trees, has produced a festive treat for the finale song that will have you tapping your feet and singing along as you leave the theatre. Guiseley Theatre has never seen anything like it.

Jacob Phillips, Artistic Director of Codswallop CIC said: “We’ve never been so excited about a Spotty Socks production before. To create something entirely new for people to enjoy is an incredibly rewarding experience - and to be surrounded by so many people supporting the process makes it feel like a real community effort. We also pride ourselves in making the arts accessible to all, and we hope that the Pay What You Can ticket price enables as many local families as possible to experience the magic of theatre this Christmas.”

The production also features an accessible performance in its programme on Sunday, December 23 at 2pm. This performance will be relaxed, signed and audio-described.

‘Freckle and Speckle’s Christmas Calamity’ runs from December 22 - 24 with two shows a day. December 22, 2pm/7pm; December 23, 2pm/ 7pm; December 24, 11am/2pm.
