THE SITE of a former old people’s home in Yeadon is to be sold to be used for specialist supported housing.

Leeds City Council’s Executive Board has signed off on a proposal to dispose of land at Queensway to enable the building of accommodation for working age adults with learning and physical disabilities.

The proposal has been backed by Guiseley and Rawdon ward councillors Paul Wadsworth and Pat Latty.

Cllr Wadsworth said:”The land comprises the cleared site of the former Kirklands House old persons’ home and is no longer needed by the council. I support the intended future use of this land and hope that it will result in high quality specialist accommodation for adults with learning and physical disabilities, allowing them to live independent lives and at the same time access any support they need.”

Councillor Latty said: “When the land was first cleared ward members insisted that the land should be used for this purpose and even though it has taken so long I am glad that this wish is being honoured.”
