A WASHBURN Valley church is enjoying a ‘new lease of life’ - with a focus on special celebrations.

The future of Timble Methodist Chapel seemed uncertain until a group of local residents stepped in and are now, with the the Wharfedale and Aireborough Methodist Circuit, running the church.

Superintendent of the Wharfedale and Aireborough Circuit, Reverend Lesley Taylor, said: “The chapel is having a new lease of life as a ‘festival church’ with services at Christmas, Easter, the church’s anniversary and at Harvest.

“It is also being developed as a sacred space for walkers and cyclists to call in for some peace and quiet.

“This is an excellent example of the church and community working together and I’m delighted to be working with the village to keep Timble Chapel open.

“There’s no place quite like it in the local area. It’s very special.”

The chapel - the site’s Christian roots stretch back to 1835 - will next open at 2.30pm on Sunday, December 16 for a Christmas Carol Service which is open to all.
