A DANCER with Matthew Bourne’s Ballet company, New Adventures met young enthusiasts in Guiseley during a visit to the area.

Principal performer Dominic North visited the Tiny Toes Ballet class when the company came to Bradford to perform its award-winning production of Swan Lake at the Alhambra.

Dominic, who is originally from Menston, answered questions about his 14 year career with New Adventures. He told youngsters he had only started dancing at the age of ten and had been inspired by Michael Jackson performing at Roundhay park in 1988.

Louise Hodgson, owner of Tiny Toes Ballet North Leeds and Lower Wharfedale says: “We were absolutely thrilled when Dominic agreed to squeeze us into his busy schedule. He brought his little girl along, and she loved joining in the class. Dominic is such an inspiration, especially with him being local, and a male dancer. We find it hard to recruit boys. High profile people such as Dominic and Matthew Bourne have done great things to promote boys in ballet.”

“Even though our dancers are Tiny, they have big dreams, and I’m quite overwhelmed that Dominic showed us such support. I had no idea when we arranged Dominic’s visit, that my little dancers would be so captivated by the experience. I can’t wait to welcome more little dancers both boys and girls to our classes. Who knows we might find another little Dominic North amongst them.”

She said Sir Matthew had sent his regards via Twitter. Tiny Toes Ballet North Leeds runs classes for children from six months to seven years. For further information contact louise@tinytoesballet.co.uk.
