WHARFEDALE politicians are backing a new ‘rebate’ system designed to boost recycling.
A report commissioned by the Resource Association and WWF-UK has identified the ‘feebate’ scheme as one of the best ways to increase the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials.
The system would work by placing a small levy on all packaging which is then refunded to organisations that show how they have used PCR materials.
The report, carried out by Eunomia, was launched at the Resource Association’s recent Parliamentary Reception which was sponsored by DS Smith and hosted by Otley’s MP Alex Sobel (Lab, Leeds North West).
Also present was the Resource Association’s Chief Executive, Ray Georgeson - who chairs Otley Town Council.
He said: “This report now adds a real level of detail to this discussion with some much-needed fresh thinking.”
