A NEW fish and chip restaurant could be opened in Bramhope.

An application has been submitted to convert what is currently the Cairns and Hickey Wine Shop, on the A660 Leeds Road, into a Brett’s outlet.

The plan would involve using the ground, and part of the first floor, of the building for the restaurant, demolishing a garage and erecting a side extension.

Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) is asking residents to let him know what they think by sending an e-mail to Barry.Anderson@leeds.gov.uk before Thursday, November 29.

One comment in support of the scheme has already been lodged by a local resident, though he also highlighted the need for the restaurant to detail how they would deal with trade waste.

Another Bramhope householder meanwhile, objecting to the proposal, said: “Brett’s is a fish and chip shop which we already have, and doesn’t constitute a restaurant.

“The impact of parking and traffic danger so close to the roundabout is also of significant concern.”
