OTLEY councillors have agreed to provide financial support for a scheme to revamp one of the town’s play areas.
As reported last month, Leeds City Council is preparing to carry out a number of improvements - including adding new equipment - to Wellcroft play park.
The total cost of the work is expected to be between £160,000 and £200,000.
Otley Town Council, at its Policy and Resources Committee meeting last week, unanimously agreed to make a contribution of £3,000.
Council Chair Councillor Ray Georgeson (Lib Dem, Danefield) said: “I would like to express my appreciation to ward Councillors Colin Campbell, Ryk Downes and Sandy Lay for their perseverance in pressing officers in Leeds on this issue and securing the funding allocation for this long-overdue refurbishment.
“Cllr Lay, in particular, has been a real champion of this cause going back to when he was a town councillor for Danefield.”
