SNOWMEN of all shapes and sizes are preparing to invade Otley again.

Town Councillor Nigel Francis introduced the first Snowman Trail last year as a way of boosting Otley’s profile in the run-up to Christmas while raising money for his Town Mayor’s appeal.

The inaugural event attracted more than 130 entries and about 150 snow men, women and children - made out of a variety of materials - were displayed around town.

Now Cllr Francis (Ind, Danefield) is inviting entries for the 2018 trail.

He said: “Christmas is a great time and last year, while I was town mayor, after we put on the trail it was something that everyone wanted us to stage again.

“There were a number of hiccups with putting on such a massive event and we had a few problems along the away, such as losing all the map work on the eve of sending the booklet to be printed.

“Fingers crossed, though, we will have everything in place and ready to go this time by Saturday, December 1.

“Last year’s snow people were great, and a lot of time and hard work had gone into making them.

“Once again, a massive thank you to all who took part and this year I hope we can attract more than 150 entries.”

Entry forms can be picked up from the town council’s offices at The Core, on Orchard Gate, where they should be returned by Friday, November 16.

Forms are also available from the Colin Pitt Leeds Road Garage and Otley Library, and can be downloaded from www.otleysnowmantrail.weebly.com .
