OLD OTLIENSIANS' coaches have been nominated for a prestigious award alongside England manager Gareth Southgate.

After masterminding the rugby union club's Junior Vase success at Twickenham in May, they have made the shortlist for the Great Coaching Moment of the Year.

In a real coup for the Yorkshire Two club, Kris Stafford and his team are joined by fellow nominees Southgate and Tracey Neville for the prize, which is open to a public vote and will be presented at a ceremony in London next month.

On what was the greatest day in the club's history, Old Otliensians beat South Molton 32-21 in the RFU Vase final.

They received a heroes' welcome back in Otley, making an open-top bus tour through the town after a season in which they also achieved promotion.

Southgate led England to their first World Cup semi-final since 1990 this summer while Neville guided England's ladies' netball team to a Commonwealth Games gold medal after a thrilling win over Australia in the final.

The Great Coaching Moment of the Year - a new award - celebrates a particular moment in time when a coach’s support and guidance really paid off. Public voting begins on November 19 and concludes on the night of the Awards.

Hosted by UK Coaching, the showpiece annual event is seen as one of the most prestigious by the coaching community and will be held at The HAC in London on Thursday, November 29.

A judging panel, consisting of experts from the coaching, sport and physical activity sector, deliberated from a record amount of nominations to select 33 finalists across 11 categories, recognising their great coaching achievements over the last 12 months.

Director of Coaching at UK Coaching Emma Atkins said: “Great coaching takes place across the UK every day and the UK Coaching Awards is our chance to formalise our recognition, congratulations and thanks to coaches for all their hard work."

She added: "The UK Coaching Awards has been staged for over 20 years, and we are confident that this year will be the biggest celebration of great coaching yet, with new categories to reflect developments and incredible achievements over the past 12 months."
