ILKLEY Round Table has announced it has made a donation to Ilkley Gym Club which will support 15 local gymnasts to perform at their first international event as part of team GB.

They will travel to Dornbirn in Austria to take part in the long-running eight-day ‘World Gymnaestrada’ in July 2019.

Ilkley Gym Club provides gymnastics classes for over 150 local children aged five to 18 at various levels. They train at Ilkley Grammar School.

Ilkley Gym Club have active competition squads who train up to eight plus hours per week and regularly represent the club and Ilkley at competitions, displays and events across the county.

They regularly have gymnasts qualify to represent the Yorkshire region at national Acrobatic Gymnastic finals. Their competition groups have performed at community events across the Ilkley area this year including Ben Rhydding Fete, The Ilkley Great Get Together and Burley Oaks Summer Fete. They have been asked to perform and showcase the gymnast’s talents at Ilkley Carnival next year.

Guy Weston of Ilkley RoundTable said: “It seems like a real achievement for so many of the group to have managed to get this far. We are happy to support this application.”
