OTLEY Army Cadets have been visited by the Town Mayor.
Councillor Mary Vickers watched a number of activities, including safe weapon handling and first aid and navigation training, during her trip to the Cadet Centre.
Sergeant Major Philip Shaw, the Otley Detachment Commander, also talked about other pursuits that the cadets enjoy - including target rifle shooting, expedition training, a variety of sports and military knowledge.
And Cllr Vickers saw some of the qualifications that the cadets are able to achieve, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award and a BTEC diploma in Uniformed Services.
The Town Mayor ended her visit by taking part in the final parade of the evening where she presented awards and badges.
These were for achievements that the cadets had notched up over the previous months while training both in Otley and in residential camps at Strensall, York and at Barry Budden Training Camp in Scotland.
For more details about the Otley Army Cadet Force, which is open to young people from the age of 12 and meets from 7pm to 9pm each Tuesday and Thursday, send an e-mail to: Philip Shaw at 935sha@gmail.com .
