A FILM about a horrific attack on a young mother will be shown in Otley as part of Black History Month.
Recy Taylor was kidnapped and gang raped by six white men in Alabama in 1944 when she was 24.
She then took the brave decision to identify her attackers and her case was taken up by the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People)’s chief rape investigator, Rosa Parks.
The story of the resulting fight for justice for Mrs Taylor and countless women like her is told in The Rape of Recy Taylor.
The Otley Film Society screening takes place at Otley Courthouse from 7.45pm on Thursday, October 18 and tickets - priced £5 - will be available on the door or from (01943) 467466.
A discussion about the issues raised will be held after the film, which was directed, produced and written by
Nancy Buirski.
The Rape of Recy Taylor had its World Premiere last year at the Venice Film Festival and was awarded the Human Rights Nights Special Prize for Human Rights at the 74° Venice Biennale.
