BEN Rhydding Sports Club held a fundraising event by putting on a Walking Football Tournament and Social on Sunday.

The event was to raise money to enable the existing defibrillator to be moved from inside the clubhouse to an outside and more accessible location. It is also intended that the club will host some HeartStart Courses, run by the British Heart Foundation, in the use of defibrillators, first aid and CPR.

The event was a huge success. There were seven participating team - two from Ilkley, two from Harrogate and one each from Guiseley, Keighley and Skipton. The eventual winners were the Harrogate Blue team, who beat Guiseley 1-0 in the final. The winners were presented with the John Johnson Shield, in honour of Ilkley player John Johnson, who was seriously injured in a cycling accident in May and is currently in a Spinal Injuries Unit in Sheffield. The Shield was presented by John’s wife Sheila and family. The event raised £1,000.

A spokesperson said: "It was great to see the event being attended on by so many families, including grandchildren, who came to watch their granddads play football in the September sun."
