A LOCAL health trust has been nominated for several national awards.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has been recognised by the IT industry for the quality of its Electronic Health Record system.

The PPM+ system has been nominated for the BCS and Computing Magazine UK IT Industry awards, the Health Service Journal annual awards and the Technology Product Awards.

Built in Leeds in partnership with local IT suppliers including Aire Logic, the system allows clinical and healthcare staff across the Leeds Trust - including at Wharfedale Hospital in Otley - and the wider region to access key information about a patient's care.

It also helps more than 18,000 clinical staff to deliver treatment built on shared information - ensuring patients receive more personalised care, quicker.

Group CEO for BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, Paul Fletcher said: "Congratulations to Leeds Teaching Hospitals for being shortlisted, they clearly demonstrate the highest levels of excellence and innovation across today’s IT sector.

"These awards showcase some of the brightest and best in our industry, and it is a significant achievement to be shortlisted."

In July of this year the system supported 69,832,798 interventions across Leeds.

Nursing staff are also collecting about 10,000 electronic forms a year containing vital information that can be instantly shared with other clinical teams.

And the Trust completed the implementation of its eMeds solution in August, resulting in 112 wards and 48 theatres now being able to prescribe and dispense drugs using a system that 'almost completely' removes the risk of errors.

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust's Chief Digital and Information Officer Richard Corbridge, meanwhile, has also been shortlisted for CIO of the Year in the UK IT Industry awards.

He said: "It’s superb for the team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals to be recognised in this way, we are leading the way across the NHS and showing others how a local focus can deliver national benefits."
