CARS, lorries and motorcycles from a different era will be on display in Otley this weekend.

More than 600 classic or older vehicles in total are set to take part in the 2018 Otley Vintage Transport Extravaganza on Sunday, September 9.

The event - which raises money for local children's charity Hang on to a Dream - takes place at Knotford Nook, off Pool Road, from 10am to 4pm.

Other entertainment on the day will include live music, car boot sales, ferret racing, a mountain dog display and children's entertainment.

Organiser Nigel Francis says he is proud the extravaganza is still 'going strong' after starting it as a one-off affair back in 1996, when he was Town Mayor.

He said: "It started as a once only event to raise some money for the mayor’s charity in 1996 and here it is bigger and better than ever!

"We will have more than 600 vehicles on the field along with trade stands, Punch and Judy shows, ferret racing, mountain dogs, the City of Leeds Pipe band, children’s amusements, a children’s fire engine, brass bands, and more - and new for this year we have donkeys and African drummers.

"There is no space left for displaying vehicles and only about a dozen car boot or trade spaces, which can be booked over the phone by calling me on (01943) 463467.

"We still need helpers for Sunday though and if anyone can help, even just for a couple of hours, please contact me either by phone or by sending an e-mail to nigelfrancis@btinternet.com."

Admission costs £4 for adults and £3.50 for concessions, with free entry for accompanied children aged under 14.

Profits will go to Hang on to a Dream and the Avro Memorial Appeal and will also support other good causes via The Spirit of Christmas.
