AN OPEN day will be held at Guiseley Cemetery as part of the National Heritage Festival.

The free event, on Sunday, September 9, is being staged by the Friends of Guiseley Cemetery.

All visitors to the cemetery on September 9 will be given the chance to either tour independently, with the aid of a map and a leaflet, or to join one of three organised tours. The tours will take place at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.

Leaflets and maps will be available on the day, along with light refreshments.

Further details are available at https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/visiting/event/friends-of-guiseley-cemetery.

Guiseley Cemetery was opened in 1922 on fields belonging to farmer Craven Cooper, and his wife was the first person to be buried there.

The guided tour will visit graves of local interest such as the Wilson brothers of Silver Cross Prams, Barney Colehan - know for the Leeds City Varieties’ Good Old Days and a number of war graves. No booking is needed.
