A CONCERT in Otley by two women's choirs has raised nearly £800 for Singing for the Brain.

Sally's Army and The Otley Singers joined forces for the fundraiser at Otley Parish Church on Saturday, May 12.

The show brought in £791 to help Singing for the Brain - which uses music to help people with dementia or memory loss - cover its running costs.

The group, based at Otley Courthouse, runs 2pm to 4pm sessions on the second and fourth Monday of each month and is keen to keep its low admission cost of £1.50* per person.

Musical Director of Sally’s Army, Sally Egan, said: "We were hoping to raise £500 to keep the Singing for the Brain group going for a year and we were delighted to raise nearly £800 on the night.

"It was a real community event with musicians giving their services for free and Otley people filling the church to enjoy the music and support an excellent cause.

"We all felt part of something bigger than ourselves."

*Refreshments, including tea and biscuits, are included during the Singing for the Brain sessions and the first week is free.
