PEOPLE in Yeadon are being asked to donate to a project in memory of those who lost their lives in war.
A small group of volunteers is planning to put up a memorial stone in front of Yeadon Methodist Church to commemorate the anniversary of the end of the First World War. The stone will remember those who gave their lives in both world wars and subsequent hostilities.
Otley and Yeadon Councillors Colin Campbell, Sandy Lay and Ryk Downes have provided some funding, and Pudsey MP Stuart Andrew has pledged his support. A memorial fund has been set up and a number of donations have been received.
It is hoped that the memorial stone will be in place in time for Remembrance Day. The committee is appealing to the Yeadon community to help raise the £16,000 needed.
Donations ( cheques made out to “The Yeadon War Memorial Fund” can be sent to Mrs J France c/o Batty France Consultancy, 1 Rosse Street, Shipley, BD18 3SX.
