THE LORD Mayor of Leeds visited Old Pool Bank last weekend to congratulate a couple on their Platinum Wedding anniversary.
Councillor Jane Dowson joined the families and friends of Mary and Alf 'Ginger' Burnell for a celebratory party at the Village Hall on Saturday, March 10.
The couple, both 93, were also treated to music from a local ukulele orchestra.
The Burnells have enjoyed seven decades together after being married at Hunslet Parish Church back in 1948.
Mr Burnell, who served in the Royal Navy during World War Two, was a famous Rugby League player whose career included appearances for representing Hunslet, England and Great Britain.
