SHIPLEY MP Philip Davies is supporting a review aimed at keeping newspapers alive in the digital age.

Mr Davies described local papers as the "life and soul of local communities", stressing that the local and regional press offered something that could not be provided by national media.

He said he would support any measures to support the press’ future, adding: "Local newspapers are the lifeblood of our communities but they are having a difficult time with internet advance and 24 hour news.

"That is why I support the government review as I want our papers to have a viable future in the digital age. Local papers hold people in positions of power to account and focus on issues that matter to our communities that would be lost if it were not for the papers."

Earlier this week Prime Minister Theresa May announced a review into press sustainability. She said the closure of hundreds of titles across the country was a "danger to our democracy".
