BRAMHOPE is preparing to hold its first ever official Christmas lights switch-on.

The event will take place at the village's tennis courts at 5.30pm on Saturday, November 25.

It will be supported by an indoor Christmas Market at the Village Hall, featuring stalls, carol singing and seasonal refreshments, which starts at 4pm.

Bramhope & Carlton Parish Council started gradually increasing the number of festive lights in the village, due to public demand, a few years ago.

The council has worked closely with the village hall's trustees to organise this year's debut switching-on ceremony.

Vice Chair of the Village Hall Trustees, Anne Davies, said: "This has been another great opportunity for the trustees and the parish council to work together.

"We shared the same vision to make Bramhope a more exciting place and to bring families together to get into the spirit of Christmas."

Vice Chair of the parish council, Hilary Harris, meanwhile hopes the event will prove popular enough to become an annual fixture.

Children from the village will begin singing Christmas songs and carols at the Christmas Market at 4.30pm on the day, when mulled wine and mince pies will be among the festive treats on offer.
