PROTESTERS from Otley have taken part in a demonstration outside RAF Menwith Hill.
About 30 people, in total, attended the October 10 event which was organised by Yorkshire CND as part of Keep Space for Peace week.
The protest was timed to coincide with the weekly, Tuesday evening demonstration that is held outside the base's main gate.
The speakers included Jenny Clegg, a Senior Lecturer in International Studies at the University of Central Lancashire and Juneseo Hwang, a student from South Korea currently studying at Bradford University.
Juneseo gave a first-hand account of how relations stand between North and South Korea.
Dave Webb meanwhile, convenor of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space, talked about the links between Menwith Hill and other US bases* around the world.
He was followed by Professor Nick Ritchie, who lectures on International Security and International Relations at York University, who expressed disappointment in the UK Government's failure to sign the Global Ban on Nuclear Weapons.
Paul Mobbs, from Croughtonwatch, rounded off the event by discussing RAF Croughton's new role in US information-gathering work, its links with Menwith Hill and the use of both bases in drone warfare.
*Menwith Hill is staffed mainly by US personnel and supports satellites operated on behalf of the US National Security Agency.
