A ONE hundred mile cycle ride from Ilkley has raised almost £7,000 for a cancer hospice.
A total of 120 amateur cyclists took part in the first ever Wharfedale Ton - from Ilkley to York and back again - raising £6,907 for the Marie Curie Cancer hospice in Bradford. The event was organised by Gordons, Lloyds Bank and the audit, tax and consulting firm RSM.
Sharon Link, Community Fundraiser at Marie Curie, said the money raised would pay for 345 hours of nursing care.
She said: "We are very grateful to all those who took part in the Wharfedale Ton and worked so hard to raise the money. These funds will allow us to continue to offer much-needed support for people living with terminal illnesses, and their families."
Gordons partner, Phil Paget, added: "The Wharfedale Ton was a resounding success, and I am very proud of all those who took part not only for their efforts in the ride but also those who donated so generously for such a good cause. The Marie Curie Cancer Care Hospice is doing vital work for the community in Bradford and we are very happy to be able to support the Hospice in this way."
The Bradford hospice offers specialist care for people with cancer and other terminal illnesses. It has a 16-bed inpatient unit as well as a fully equipped day therapy service department.
