MP PHILIP Davies has given his backing to a campaign promoting responsible gambling.
Gamble Aware Week highlighted the need for people to set and adhere to a betting limit and take regular breaks.
And it publicised the support available to anyone with a gambling problem.
Posters were displayed in betting shops across the area.
The week also saw the launch of new mandatory alerts for gaming machine players – an on-screen message now appears when someone has spent £150 or played for 20 minutes.
Mr Davies, whose Shipley constituency includes Burley-in-Wharfedale and Menston, said: "I welcome Gamble Aware Week as a positive demonstration by betting shops of their commitment to responsible gambling.
"Whilst a majority of people enjoy their gambling as a pleasurable pastime, it is important those who struggle to manage their gambling behaviour are aware of the support services available and use them."
The campaign was spearheaded by the Association of British Bookmakers.
Spokesman, Malcolm George, said: "The initiative emphasised the importance the bookmaking industry places on encouraging our customers to bet safely and responsibly.
"Betting shops offer the safest place to gamble."
