THE UK's champion 'challenge eater' has been given an official role at a Yeadon restaurant.

Competitive eater Adam Moran, also known as Beard Meets Food, has been appointed chief eating officer at Huckleberry's.

And such is his value to the eaterie, his boss has insured his stomach and tastebuds for £1 million!

The position will involve the 31-year-old from Leeds 'testing' all the new challenge dishes being served at the American-style diner, which also has outlets at York and Darlington.

Former banker Mr Moran, whose titles include Yorkshire Pudding Eating World Champion and Battle of Big Eaters World Championship Finalist, said: "This is literally the dream job for anyone interested in food.

"A big chunk of my job description is to basically eat for a living and test out all the new challenge dishes, as well as take on potential challengers in head-to-head contests.

"It's a meaty role and I can't wait to get stuck in.

"It’s a massive departure from what I was doing previously, working in the stockbroking division at Lloyds Bank, but Huckleberry’s is a great restaurant and I’m confident I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew."

He added: "I’m looking forward to working with Huckleberry’s chefs to come up with some inspired new challenge dishes and breaking some more world records.

"And I’m relishing the opportunity of going head-to-head with members of the public who fancy taking on the Beard!"

Known for its food challenges, the company is now planning to give successful challengers the chance to try and beat Mr Moran, with £1,000 up for grabs.

Founder and co-owner of Huckleberry's, Sarah Rowlands, said: "We’re delighted to have Adam on board.

"He’s been a regular at Huckleberry’s ever since we opened, so to have him on our team makes him a valuable addition – so much so that I’m insuring his stomach and tastebuds for £1 million!

"Adam is great with the public and, as infamous food vlogger Beard Meats Food, has a cult following – we can’t wait for customers, who have the stomach, to take him on in a Man versus Food challenge to step up to the plate!"
