OTLEY Neighbourhood Plan has launched a survey to find out more about people who work in the town but live outside it.

The plan's Housing Group is contacting a selection of large and small local businesses and asking employees who commute to Otley to take part in a three-minute, online and print, questionnaire.

Group Chairman Penny Mares hopes the results will shed more light on housing needs in Otley.

She said: "Concerns about the lack of affordable housing in town emerged in the Neighbourhood Plan’s community survey in 2014.

"We need to know if the facts support this view.

"One question we hope to answer is: how many people work here who can’t afford to live here?"

Peter Heald, of Otley Town Partnership, added: "According to Census data, quite a high proportion of people travel into Otley for work from somewhere else.

"Our survey will help to establish how many people do this because they prefer to, or because they can’t find somewhere suitable to live in the town."

Anyone who commutes to Otley for work can also take part directly in the survey if their employer is not one of the businesses being sampled.

Ann online version can be completed at surveymonkey.com/r/SZCF9WY between now and the closing date of Monday, April 11.

Print copies, meanwhile, are available from the Otley Core Resource Centre on Orchard Gate.
