TWENTY Beaver Scouts in Ilkley Christchurch Scout Group have been presented with the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award - creating a record in the process.

County Commissioner Mark Stageman said he was delighted to present the youngest and newest scouts with the award.

The group at Christchurch, The Grove, is a new addition to scouting in Wharfedale District and the original 20 members have worked since joining the group to receive the award setting a record in the district for the most earned within a group at once.

The bronze award is the highest award attainable in Beaver Scouting.

Group Scout leader, Judith Dickinson, said it was quite unusual for so many children to gain this award at the same time. The reason there were so many is that they all joined last year when the group started, and have worked through the same programme together.

Mr Stageman said: "These young people across Ilkley Scouts celebrate a great achievement in earning their award together after all joining together and we thank the adult volunteers who have supported them and set up this new scout group at Ilkley. On behalf of the young people, I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who gives up their time to support scouting."

Scouting continues to grow across Ilkley and the Bradford Districts, with more young people and adults joining than ever before. To find out more about scouting or become as adult volunteer, visit wyscouts.org.uk.
