AN EPILEPSY charity is holding its last ever Alice’s Run in memory of a student who died in a tragic accident.

Alice Redmond had worked for Yeadon-based Epilepsy Action during her placement year. The Leeds Metropolitan University student died in August 2005.

Since then, Epilepsy Action has held an annual run in her memory, raising more than £58,000 to support people living with the condition across the UK.

This year’s race will be the tenth and final event, and as many people as possible are needed to smash the fundraising target of £65,000. The multi-terrain 10k race winds through the valley on September 6.

Liv and Steve Redmond, Alice’s parents, said: “During the past ten years, Alice’s Run has been a wonderful tribute to Alice’s memory. We have been so pleased and proud to see so many people gathering to celebrate Alice’s memory, and to raise money for such a good cause. Epilepsy Action was a very special charity in Alice’s life.

“We hope everyone who has taken part in the past will come and join us for one last time – we would love to see the target of £65,000 raised.”

Katie Reah, fundraising manager, Epilepsy Action, said: “Since it began in 2006, more than 2,400 runners have crossed the finish line of Alice’s Run. We hope as many people as possible, runners old and new, will sign up to help make this final race the biggest and best yet.

“During the past ten years, Alice’s Run has been a fitting tribute to a much-loved and respected member of the Epilepsy Action team. The aim is always to help raise vital funds to support people affected by epilepsy, but this year we also want to celebrate all that has been achieved in Alice’s memory. We will continue to celebrate Alice’s legacy at the Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k road race.”

Alice’s Run is suitable for all, a circular route for runners, or walkers. It starts at 10.30am at Brearley Fields in Mytholmroyd, to Calder High School. T-shirts and refreshments for all finishers. An additional kilometre-long children’s fun run, for medals, is at 10.45am, at Calder High School field, sign up on the day. The main event costs £14 or £12. Minimum age 15.
