LABOUR supporters in Otley have been told to expect a “historic and close-fought” election at both national and local levels.
The prediction was made by the party’s deputy chairman, Jon Trickett, as he helped the Otley and Yeadon branch launch its campaign last weekend.
Labour candidate for Leeds North-West, Alex Sobel, was among the other speakers at the event, held at the Philip Coyne Labour Rooms.
May’s elections will see council seats at parish, town and city level, as well as parliamentary constituencies, contested.
The leader of Otley Town Council, Cllr John Eveleigh (Lab, Ashfield), is standing for the Otley & Yeadon ward of Leeds City Council.
He told the 40-plus people at the launch that, if elected, he would work to gain a stronger voice for residents.
