FILMING for the hit crime series DCI Banks took place in Ilkley this week.

A camera crew was on location in the town on Tuesday, with filming taking place at one stage in the car park of Ilkley swimming pool.

The ITV drama, based on the novels of Peter Robinson, stars Stephen Tompkinson, Andrea Lowe and Caroline Catz.

Series four, produced by award-winning indie Left Bank Pictures, has been shot in Yorkshire since September with the support of Creative England. Filming has taken place across the region in locations including Leeds, Otley, Bradford, Harrogate, Selby, Wakefield, Castleford and Goole.

Chris Hordley, production liaison manager for Yorkshire and East Midlands, said: “We have been working closely with the team at DCI Banks and Ilkley Moor is just one of the fantastic filming locations we are actively promoting as part of Creative England’s film location service in Yorkshire. Of course Bradford has many more to offer, and we work closely with our Film Friendly Partners at Bradford City of Film to ensure film crews are fast tracked when it comes to securing vital filming permissions in Bradford. We’ve seen a rise in demand for our location service in Yorkshire over the last three years and 2015 looks set to be another busy year.”

Recent productions that Creative England has also supported with shoots on Ilkley Moor include the feature film Miss You Already, starring Drew Barrymore. and Toni Collette, and new landmark period drama for BBC1 Jonathan Strange And Mr Morell, DCI Banks has built a reputation for credible and emotional crime stories that are firmly rooted in the Yorkshire setting.

This fourth series will feature powerful personal stories for the lead characters, both in their private lives and in their work environment; a deeper exploration of Banks’ relationship with his parents, further complications in Annie and Banks on/off romance and a personal crisis that threatens Helen’s career.

After the drama was re-commissioned by ITV in September executive producer, Andy Harries said: “What people love about DCI Banks is the compelling stories that are drawn from real life and often inspired by real events.It’s a proper British detective show set in the heart of modern Yorkshire.”

Creative England’s Production Services team provide a free film office service to productions filming in England, outside London, to create investment, jobs and profile.
