Staff and pupils at Ghyll Royd school are celebrating excellent sports results.

Last year four children from the school were selected to join Bradford Esprit, a local diving club with a superb track record of developing national champions.

Following completion of a three-month training programme the children have now been selected to join the squad and are part of only 24 children remaining in the programme.

The Burley-in-Wharfedale school has also performed exceptionally well within the Wharfedale Cross Country League with some excellent individual performances.

Within the overall league competition eight children were placed in the top ten with first place positions for the year 3 and year 5 boys, with Joshua Marlow the Year 3 winner and Lewis Carr, Year 5 winner.

Jo Jenkinson, Head Teacher at Ghyll Royd School, said: “Sport has always been an important aspect of life at Ghyll Royd and I am always proud of the children’s achievements.

“Our Friday morning running club has increased in popularity over recent years and the children practice whatever the weather. It is wonderful to see their dedication rewarded with such exceptional results. Who knows, we could have some future Olympians amongst us.”
