Ashlands Primary School in Ilkley is having new classrooms built to accommodate more children as the school increases from 1.5 form to two form entry.

The four new classrooms, an extension to the playground and a remodelled entrance to the school will take shape during the autumn term.

Head teacher Andrew Soutar said: “This is an exciting time to be at Ashlands as the new buildings take shape. The children have enjoyed seeing the foundations being dug, the concrete being poured and the walls starting to take shape.

“The Year 1 children have produced an excellent piece of artwork showing the different diggers on site. The older children will get a chance to see a little more of the building works with some special days laid on by the contractor, Bermar Building Co.Ltd. All the children will have a chance to sit in a digger and have a photo taken.”

Mr Soutar added: “The new buildings are being funded by Bradford Council as part of their expansion programme to provide school places for all the children in the district. The building works at Ashlands represent a £1.5m investment in education provision from Bradford Council. The new classrooms will provide the children, staff and parents of Ashlands with the space to teach a 21st Century curriculum.”
