Two Dance teams from St Mary’s Catholic High School in Menston took part in the Leeds Dance Competition.

The annual competition, organised by the Leeds North West School Sport Partnership, has been running for five years and this year was hosted by Temple Moor High School. Eleven schools performed in the competition and provided a diverse style of performances.

The event was judged by dancers and choreographers Marion Gilhooly and Jo Parry, who were extremely impressed with the high standard.

The St Mary’s team of Alicia Stringwell, Sophie Sage, Amorette Lawn, Sophia Lenik, Chloe Williams, Alicia Wilson and Caragh Casserly were worthy winners of the Key Stage 4 competition. The future of St Mary’s Dance appears to be bright.

Mischa Simpson, Molly Steele, April Walton, Lucy Hings, Romey Parker, Charlotte Pickstone, Hattie Barnes, Fiona Moore, Anna Slaboduch, Ella-Grace Shaw, Libby Woffenden and Rhianne Shaw performed an excellent routine but narrowly missed out on the medal position with Temple Moor High School winning the Key Stage 3 competition. Principal at Temple Moor, Martin Fleetwood, said: “I was bowled over by the energy and talent of all the schools that took part. The spirit in which the event was undertaken allowed everyone to leave, assured these young people are jewels in the city’s ever developing cultural crown.”
