THE magic of the musical is in full flow with Ilkley Amateur Operatic Society’s upcoming production of ‘Cinderella’.

This one isn’t a pantomime, but is a show for all the family; it tells the traditional Cinderella tale through the wonderful music of Rogers and Hammerstein, the writers of ‘Sound of Music’ which was a sell-out for IAOS last year.

This production is guaranteed to look nothing like you might expect Cinderella to look, as the design is very much on a ‘Steampunk’ theme, providing a visual treat.

Operatic House was a hive of activity over half term as the set was being built and painted, and the finishing touches being put to the 100 plus costumes and accessories - IAOS have built up a reputation for original design as well as professional standard performances.

‘Cinderella’ has a cast of over 40 members of the society, some who are newcomers to Ilkley, like Andrew Howorth who is playing the King, and Suze Collinge for whom this is her first adult role, having performed a few years ago as a child when her father was the society President! But the majority will be familiar faces from both the youth and main productions of recent years; including Susan Wilcock who played Maria in the ‘Sound of Music’ returning as the Godmother.

The young leads bring us the Happy Ever After - Evie Clark and Gabriel Jones last appeared together in ‘Les Miserables’ playing Eponine and Marius, the object of her unrequited love - this time, she gets her man! ‘Cinderella’ will be at the Kings Hall from March 11th - 14th March, including a Saturday matinee performance.
