FANS of two of the USA’s biggest rock and roll stars are in for a double treat at Otley next month.

Through the Decades with Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly will be presented at the Courthouse on Sunday, February 16.

The two hour show from AM Productions is described as a uplifting experience ‘full of pure nostalgia with all their hits and a few earlier ones too’.

The publicity material for the production says: “Darren Page’s vocal abilities have brought a reputation that always delivers a quality to entertain, but his secret love in music is Roy Orbison.

“Marc Robinson has played the part of Buddy Holly all over the world and all over Great Britain; and he has performed in Buddy The Musical and numerous other shows.

“Darren joined Marc and together they both have dedicated their careers to Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly.

“Will rock ‘n’ roll ever die? That’ll be the Day!”

Orbison and Holly both grew up in the same part of Texas in the same year - 1936.

Blessed with an operatic voice and dramatic style, Roy Orbison went on to write (or co-write) and perform a long list of hit songs that included Crying, Only The Lonely, In Dreams and Oh, Pretty Woman.

His life, however, was blighted by personal tragedies before he died in 1988, aged 52.

Buddy Holly, infamously, didn’t even make it to half that age, dying in a plane crash on February 3, 1959 when he was just 22.

But he wrote or co-wrote a number of classic songs during his short life.

Many of them, including Peggy Sue, Not Fade Away, That’ll Be The Day and Everyday, are still performed regularly today.

Holly then proved to be a major influence on many of the big popular music artists who followed him including the likes of Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.

And in 1986 Buddy Holly was one of the first artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Through the Decades with Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly starts at the Courthouse at 7.30pm and tickets cost £17.50.

Before that, on Saturday, February 1, musical satirist Mitch Been will be performing at the venue.

The BBC Radio 4 regular, with guitar in hand, will present Ten Songs to Save the World from 8pm.

The show will feature Benn wrestling with some of the biggest issues of 2020 and considering a number of not-altogether-serious solutions in musical form.

Tickets cost £15.
