WALKING, talking Dream Trees will appear on the streets of Leeds as part of a two-day festival this week.

The trees will be among more than 60 artistic creations at the annual Light Night Leeds.

Crowds of up to 80,000 are expected to attend the event, which will take place on Thursday, October 10 and Friday, October 11 from 6pm to 11pm.

Vastint UK, which is part of an international real estate organisation, is taking part in this year’s festival to publicise the planned transformation of the former Tetley Brewery site to create the Aire Park district.

Dream Trees will roam the city centre and take part in the opening parade, as a nod to the 500 new trees and large amounts of green space that Aire Park will bring to Leeds city centre.

Vastint will also stage Pleasance by Novak - a 35-metre long street projection, which is also inspired by the Aire Park development.

The installation will be projected onto the street directly in front of the Tetley Brewery building.

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “There is huge anticipation for the development of Aire Park, a district that will open up the city and reconnect the North and South of Leeds.

“We’re pleased that Light Night will set the stage for Vastint UK to share a first glimpse of the transformation of the South Bank with a multi-sensory experience that everyone can enjoy.”

The Tetley building will also welcome visitors at Light Night with unique art events, including a shadow theatre workshop and two interactive installations, Return by Akeelah Bertam and The Happiness Sum by Jemma Wood.

Mio wood-fired pizza and Tetley’s own barbecue will also be available on site.

Visitors will be able to park for £2 at The Brewery Long Stay car park over both nights.

Light Night will also feature illuminated angels, a flying violinist, and a parade with illuminated dancers, drummers, monsters and marionettes..

This year’s event will explore the themes of mind, body and spirit.
