TALENTED young singer Zweyla Mitchell dos Santos will join Steeton Male Voice Choir at a concert on September 14.

She will perform with them at Silsden Methodist Church at 7.30pm in aid of Manorlands.

Zweyla won the Steeton Male Voice Choir Arthur Wilson Memorial Prize at the 2017 Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts, giving her the chance to sing one of their concerts.

She will soon begin her second year studying BA Musical Theatre at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Zweyla started singing in church which was young and cannot remember a time when there was not music in the house.

She said: “I took up formal training for classical singing when I was 14 which led to me doing grades and taking part in both the Mrs Sunderland and Wharfedale performing arts festivals.

“This was really beneficial and a wonderful experience which made me grow as a performer. I auditioned for both Classical and Musical Theatre courses and have now finished my first year at the RCS.”

Steeton choir spokesman Eric Parker said the concert would allow Zweyla to showcase her talents to a wider audience.

He said: “Steeton rehearse weekly under the leadership of our musical director Catherine Sweet to bring our audiences the best of our varied choral repertoire of songs.

“Our audiences help the choir to raise thousands of pounds each year for charities for good causes so we always have to be on top of our game.”
