ON Saturday, August 17 at 7.30pm in Burley-in-Wharfedale Methodist Church, the Wharfedale Chamber Ensemble will return to perform its seventh annual concert as part of the Burley Summer Festival, offering an exciting programme of classical pieces.

Music from the string orchestra, conducted by Ben Crick (Artistic Director of Skipton Camerata and former BBC Music Fellow) and led by Clare Richards, will include Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Janacek’s Suite for Strings and John Rutter’s Suite for String Orchestra (based on folk songs).

The orchestra is also delighted to welcome Alice Wrigglesworth in Vivaldi’s Bassoon Concerto in C major. Alice has lived in Burley-in-Wharfedale for most of her life until recently moving to Manchester to study Bassoon at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Alice began playing bassoon at the age of 11 and before starting her studies in Manchester, was Principal bassoon in the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra, the Opera North Youth Academy in 2018 and was bassoonist and contrabassoonist in the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain.

Since moving to Manchester she has been busy playing with groups including Wyatt Sinfonia, RNCM Wind Orchestra, Manchester University Symphony Orchestra and the Anemoi Quintet.
