A WASHBURN Valley church will host an evening of folk music next month.

Folk @ Norwood takes place at the Norwood Methodist Church and Retreat Centre from 7.30pm on Friday, May 17.

The event, the first of its kind to be held at the venue, will feature performances by local artists Summercross - fronted by Otley Ambassador and former MP Greg Mulholland - and Heather Woodhead. Other musicians, still to be confirmed, will also be performing.

The chapel and retreat centre has recently been refurbished and Norwood Management Committee, as part of its strategy to safeguard the building’s future, is keen to hold a concert or other event there every couple of months.

The venue, set in an idyllic spot on Lower Norwood Road which overlooks Lindley Wood Reservoir, has a maximum capacity of 60 so anyone interested in enjoying the folk evening is advised to book early.

Tickets cost £10, which includes refreshments, and can be purchased by sending payment plus an SAE (stamped addressed envelope) to: Norwood Folk Evening, c/o 76 The Whartons, Otley, LS21 2BS. Cheques should be made payable to Wharfedale and Aireborough Methodist Circuit.

The committee has a number of other events planned for the summer and autumn too, with more details to be announced .

Later this month on Easter Monday - April 22 - the centre will be opening its doors to serve Bank Holiday refreshments.

The event, organised b Bramhope Methodist Church, runs from 10am to 4.30pm when morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon teas (with homemade scones, cakes and sandwiches) will be available.

A support group for the centre and chapel was launched in 2018 - for more details visit www.yorkshirewestmethodist.org.uk/people-places/norwood-retreat-centre .
