ABUNDANT orchestral colour and drama are promised in Sunday’s Airedale Symphony Orchestra concert conducted by John Anderson. Beethoven’s stirring Egmont Overture will open the concert in rousing style. Then Bradford born pianist William Green will be the soloist in Brahms’ Piano Concerto No 1 in D minor, one of the grandest concertos of them all. Appalachian Spring is perhaps Aaron Copland’s best known score. The all-American tunes include a Shaker Song instantly recognizable as Lord of the Dance.
Respighi’s exotic symphonic poem The Pines of Rome ends with a thrilling depiction of a Roman Army marching on the Appian Way. Before that astonishing (and very loud) finale, listen out for the magical sound of a nightingale softly singing.
Airedale Symphony Orchestra is on Sunday, April 7 at 7.30pm in the King’s Hall. Tickets from Ilkley Visitor Information Centre tel: 01943 602319.
