A PLAY about Agatha Christie’s famous disappearance will be performed in Otley next month.

Where is Mrs Christie? explores the real-life mystery surrounding the renowned thriller writer’s eleven ‘missing days’ in 1926.

The discovery of her crashed car in Surrey that year sparked one of the biggest manhunts in history - during which many presumed that she had died.

When she was eventually found at a luxury hotel in Harrogate the author claimed that shed was suffering from amnesia and remembered nothing.

Neither the press nor the police believed her and Where is Mrs Christie? - The Mystery of Agatha Christie’s Eleven Lost Days explores not just what happened but why - casting the writer herself as the narrator, defendant and defence counsel.

The play, by Chris Jaeger, is being toured by the Worcester Repertory Company as a one-woman show starring Liz Grand, who has been praised for delivering ‘a master-class in nuanced delivery and dramatic timing’.

It will be performed at Otley Courthouse at 7.30pm on Saturday, April 6.

Art lovers, meanwhile, can view a recording of an exhibition in Cambridge, featuring the works of Edgar Degas, at the Courthouse on Friday, April 12.

The Exhibitions on Screen: Degas: Passion for Perfection event takes place on Friday, April 12.

The 85 minute long film, directed by David Bickerstaff, will be shown at 7.30pm and shows a ‘journey from the streets of Paris to the heart of a superb exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, whose extensive collection of Degas’ works is the most representative in Britain’.

It goes on to tell a ‘fascinating story of Degas’ pursuit for perfection through both experimentation with new techniques and lessons learned from studying past masters.’ Degas: Passion for Perfection features written accounts by friends and commentators and the narration of letters by the French artist himself to shine a light on his life and art.

On Thursday, April 11 Otley Film Society will present Lean on Pete. The movie follows a 15-year-old boy who, after moving with his father to Portland, Oregon takes on a summer job with a washed-up horse trainer and befriends a failing racehorse.
