ALISTAIR McGowan, impressionist, stand-up, writer, actor and pianist, is set to perform in one of Leeds most unique venues, the piano emporium Besbrode Pianos, at Besbrode Pianos Leeds.

Behind the walls of Besbrode’s unassuming warehouse hides a stunning treasure trove showcasing 300 ornate, decorative and antique pianos, including concert grand Steinways.

Melvin Besbrode owner of Besbrode Pianos said: “It promises to be a very special, intimate evening for music lovers, surrounded by beautiful pianos in our stunning venue. It’s extra-special to have Alistair perform in Leeds, with its international reputation and proud heritage around the piano.”

The Live at The Apollo and Big Impression TV star brings together all his talents in his hugely-popular show, Introductions to Classical Piano. Alongside his trademark impressions, McGowan will talk a little about composers and the challenges of learning the piano at the age of 49. He’ll perform short pieces from his hit record, The Piano Album.

Alistair McGowan said: “This tour is a whole new way of presenting classical piano music. It is, possibly, the first classical event in the world which has tried to intersperse romantic music with comedy. I’d be delighted if, as well as fans of classical music, I was able to encourage people who may not know much about the history of the piano to come and enjoy some of the incredible music written (and still being written) for the piano. As well as having the chance to share a little of the stories of the lives of the great composers and the extraordinary music they write, I simply can’t perform in a room and not have some fun with my favourite impressions. It could well be the first show in which you hear Harry Kane alongside the music of George Gershwin, Jacob Rees Mogg between pieces by Edvard Grieg. I hope this show introduces people to some wonderfully romantic music and demonstrates to anyone who harbours a secret ambition to take up music, that it really is never too late!”

Melvin Besbrode added: “For those in the know, we are considered a paradise for piano players. We’re hoping Alistair’s hugely entertaining and inspiring show will attract those who have yet to discover us as a creative movement in our community.”

Alistair McGowan presents: Introductions to Classical Piano on 7 April, 8pm, at Besbrode Pianos. Tickets £18 + Eventbrite fee
