NO fewer than four big Hollywood stars feature in The Big Short, Ilkley Film Society's next screening on Sunday, February 5 (8pm, Ilkley Playhouse).
Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale and Steve Carell are the leads in a film which deals with the financial crisis of 2007-2008, which was triggered by the reckless behaviour of US banks regarding high-risk loans and sub-prime mortgages. Based on the true story of the men who exposed the colossal fraud at great personal risk, The Big Short uses unconventional techniques to ensure that the audience can understand complex financial procedures.
Director Adam McKay's film was a big box-office hit and was nominated for five Oscars, winning for its screenplay, adapted from Michael Lewis's bestseller.
Non-members are requested to reserve tickets (£4) by phoning Dave Howell on 01943 430097. More information about the Film Society’s current season can be found at www.ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk
