YOUNGSTERS were busy wishing peace and goodwill to all men when these pictures were taken 30 years ago.

For generations of children school nativity plays and festive productions have been an important part of Christmas.

And when these young performers posed for the camera in 1989 there was the usual collection of wise men, shepherds and angels - as well as trolls, teddy bears and toy soldiers.

Pupils of All Saints School in Ilkley can be seen performing Christmas and the World Around Us written by teacher Margaret Pratt.

Lower School pupils at Moorfield School, Ilkley, staged their nativity play against a backdrop of stars and camels.

The Nutcracker Suite was the theme of a performance staged by Ilkley’s Sacred Heart School. The show was attended by parents, friends and local senior citizens.

Bolling Road First School in Ben Rhydding also put on a nativity.

Youngsters at Addingham First School raised more than £30 for charity with their musical drama Tarfa and His Trolls - one of three Christmas productions staged by the school in 1989. The seven and eight year olds acted, sang and played musical instruments in the original Christmas show.
