Carlton 3 Otley Town 5

Town marked the welcome return of their captain Jamie Simms as they scored their third Premier Division win of the season.

The game was played at a fast pace and the action switched from end to end.

The first goal went to Carlton when a badly-formed defensive wall presented the chance for one of Carlton’s strikers to score from a 20-yard free kick.

Town struggled to come to terms with the home sides tactic of hitting long balls to their left winger.

Eventually they started to fight back when a good run down left by Paul Harrison saw Chris Alderson force the keeper into a diving save.

From the resulting corner Joe Hendrie scored from close range as Harrison’s inswinging delivery troubled the defence.

Town took game to Carlton and went close with Scott Cater hitting the bar, but it was the home side who took the lead following another attack down the left.

Town weren’t behind long in this lively encounter. They won a free kick 25 yards from goal and Scott Cater hit a unstoppable shot through the keeper to make it 2-2.

Town had to weather early pressure in the second half before edging ahead for the first time.

Cater was becoming a handful on the left and when he beat the full back then the centre half he calmly passed to the unmarked Simon Armstrong who scored from 15 yards.

Carlton were rattled and Cater again had the beating of the defence as he created the opening for Luke Danskin to make it 4-2 to Town after 53 minutes.

Goalkeeper Gavin Phelps was forced to make two great saves to keep town in front but couldn’t stop Carlton pulling a goal back from a corner.

Town sealed victory when a great passing move saw Danskin net his second goal and Town’s fifth to round off the scoring.

On Saturday Town are at home in first round of West Riding County Cup to Halifax Irish at the Old Showfield (2pm).
