Otley Town 3 Leeds City 6

OTLEY Town ended the season with defeat in an entertaining West Yorkshire League Premier Division encounter at the Old Showfield.

The away side, needing to win to keep their faint title hopes alive, got off to a great start when they took the lead in the first minute.

They soon added to their advantage when the imperious Mitch Cameron punished a mix-up in the Town defence with a superb lob from fully 40 yards out.

However, if City thought they were home and hosed, they were soon stunned as Otley roared back into the game to level things with two quick-fire goals from James Shenton, the first of which followed great work from Toby Harris.

Sadly this was as good as it got for Town. The away side were just that bit better in all aspects of the game – technique, fitness, mobility, speed of thought and not least motivation.

The second period saw them in the ascendancy and adding to their tally at regular intervals, although it must be said they were helped by some lackadaisical defending by the home side.

They also possessed the stand-out player of the match in Cameron who scored his second and his team’s sixth when he almost apologetically lashed the ball into the top corner when he saw that no pass was on.

A late consolation goal from Dan Chadwick was no more than that, and Town must now look to next season with the hope that new signings can bolster their ranks as they aim for a top-six finish.
