Shelley 1 Otley Town 5

OTLEY Town made the long trip to Shelley worthwhile as they recorded a resounding West Yorkshire League Premier Division victory.

Town were out of the blocks quickly, and Scott Cater went close with a free header from a corner. Shelley failed to heed the warning, and the same play led to the first goal shortly afterwards.

From the re-start, Joe Hall capitalised on a defensive lapse to lob the goalkeeper and Town found themselves two goals to the good.

Scarcely had they finished celebrating when a third goal arrived, this time Josh Waite taking advantage of slack marking to head in from yet another corner.

Shelley were by now reeling like a punch-drunk boxer, and suffered another blow when James Shenton added to the Town tally with only 20 minutes gone.

Further goals might easily have arrived before the interval, with Dan Chadwick hitting the post and Hall guilty of missing a proverbial sitter.

The match was over now as a contest, and the second half was a scrappier affair. Shenton added his second of the game before a late consolation goal for the home side.

It was ironic that manager Dave Morris was absent for Town’s best performance of the season. Having endured some poor results of late, how he would have enjoyed this, and assuming no injuries or absentees the same eleven will surely start Saturday's match at Hunslet Club (2:30pm kick-off).

Otley Town Res 5 Kippax Res 1

Otley Town Reserves said farewell to management duo of Jonathan McGee and Patrick Campbell with their finest display of the season.

Otley went into the game with an average age of 22 and started at a fine pace so it was no surprise when Peter Connolly opened the scoring with a fine volley.

Connolly soon picked up his second goal after good approach play from captain John Lock.

The third goal came when 16-year-old Kallum Kirk blasted home from 20 yards.

Connolly completed his ha-trick on the stroke of half-time to finish of the game as a contest.

Kippax gave everything in the second half and scored after 70 minutes. Lock rounded off the scoring late on.
