Oxenhope 4 Otley Town 1

WITH no game last Saturday, Town resumed league action at Oxenhope on Wednesday night.

The first half was an even affair, with Michael Garnett’s opener cancelled out by a Tom Walker strike for Town, who went close to taking the lead on three more occasions only to find the home goalkeeper in excellent form.

Unfortunately, the game ran away from them in the second half, although the final scoreline flattered the home side somewhat.

The key difference between the sides was Garnett, a fine leader of the line, and both a scorer and creator. How Town could do with finding his like to bolster their own ranks.

NEXT up was a trip to league leaders Field, who had beaten Town 5-0 only a few weeks previously.

When a typical defensive lapse saw Field open the scoring after only ten minutes, Town's followers feared the worst, but were pleasantly surprised by the response from Otley.

They re-grouped and made life difficult for the home side, and might easily have equalised but for a tremendous save from a James Evison strike.

Joe Hall also went close but saw his shot slip agonisingly wide of the post.

The second half was a scrappy affair, and both goalkeepers were seldom troubled. The strong breeze and bobbly surface played a part, with the ball spending a fair percentage of time out of play.

With time running out, Town did manage to carve out a decent opportunity, but Scott Cater was off target with a left-footed shot following good work from Toby Harris.

Although Town are not in any real danger of relegation, it would be good to see them end the season on a high, and garner some points from their remaining games. This Saturday seems them make the long journey to Shelley (2:30pm kick-off).
